Econo Hauler

Getting yourself, and your race car back and forth to Bonneville, or where ever you happen to race, can be an expensive undertaking.  But, I am here to tell you that you CAN get a great hauler, loaded with features, at an economical price.

This year saw us hauling the trailer in style and with power to spare courtesy of a 2002 raised top FORD E350 Super Duty, 7.3 Turbo Diesel.

YES!  It is EXACTLY what it appears to be. It is a fully equipped Ambulance,  complete with hitch, brake controller and 7 blade RV plug, ready to roll.

You might initially be a little skeptical of such a choice.  But, you must remember that these rigs undergo rigorous maintenance and inspections on a regular scheduled basis as a normal part of the EMS industry standards.  Case in point is that the last 2 vehicles I purchased from private, non commercial owners, both required $1200 – $1500 in repairs in order to pass the Provincial Safety Inspection.  This unit needed a horn replaced.  As you might imagine, it would be fairly easy for them to not notice a failed horn, what with all the other noise makers it is equipped with.

More over, these rigs have all sorts of features you will find handy for your race days.  An entire wall of cabinets with sliding lexan doors and abundant ceiling lighting.

An industrial power inverter and wiring for both internal inverter power, and external power from a generator, plus 12vdc outlets ensure you have electrical power for all your needs

In this particular unit, I was pleased to find 4 new batteries had been installed in the last year for a huge reserve of inverter and starting power. Note the Shore Line connector, which auto ejects the external power cord so you do not drive away while plugged in.

Dual air conditioning units, and auxiliary heating assist in the creature comfort end of things.

There are all sorts of additional features such as storage benches (with seat belts), fire extinguishers, spot lights, external scene lighting to name just a few of the handy items that can be found in these units.  Check with your local A.H.J. (Police) to see what is required of you regarding the emergency lighting.  Usually covering the flashing reds is all you need to do which can be done with vinyl or with paint.  If you think this might be a solution for you, check out what might be available from a local supplier, A.R.V.
