Dual Throttle Intakes
For the first year running, using the original bone stock engine, I wanted to make a few additions that were ‘bolt on’ for the most part just to see what you could get out of the cat. There have only been a few dual throttle body manifolds made, one that I know of made by Chadbourn Bolles. Several years ago, I did a 2bbl onto a 6 cyl, so I planned to do dual throttle V12 intakes as an addition to my 76 XJS, and collected V12 intakes to use for donor parts. Never did get around to actually building them. So, now I have motivation. I’ll do them up for the Salt Flats Cat, then, when I install the new engine which has 12-45mm down draft bodies, I’ll set these aside for the 76. Two birds one stone.
Running short on time, I recruited the assistance of a life long friend Dennis “The Machinist’ Morgan to head up the project. With Dennis at the helm, there was nothing to worry about for this aspect of the build. Dennis, apart from having a nice lathe and REALLY nice TIG in his shop, is a craftsman in every aspect and very meticulous in his details.
After a little consultation, a plan was formed. Dennis wanted to try a little twist on the design is that he is going to rotate the throttle valves 90 deg. so that they open on a vertical axis, directing air towards the furthest ports first. We’ll see how that effects the end results once we actually run the car.
There’s the initial plan. I’m putting a bunch of pictures up in the gallery on this page so you have something to look at and try to make sense of. As I find a little time to write up the story, I’ll move the pictures into the article, so they make some sense.
